Greener Projects Continue To Grow In Central And Southwest Florida

Green building is continuing to see great success in the past few years and into tomorrow.  Builders alike are seeing the benefit of having a third party certified program added to their projects.  It gives them creditability in their project and to their company that they are committing to building the project well, but building to a standard that is above and beyond what is needed in everyday construction. Two Trails Inc. one of the nations leading green building consulting firm wanted to recognize these great projects in choosing to build to a third party certified green program and having Two Trails as part of their team.

Harmony development located in Harmony, FL is central Florida’s largest master-planned green community dedicated to the concept of living in harmony with the environment.  The community features homes builders of different price points, schools, recreation, and municipal structures all built in one development promoting healthy living and a green lifestyle.  For the retail phase in this development Harmony is developing a 15,000sq/ft retail mall to give residents everyday services in the development without the need of traveling to nearby shopping districts.  The retail center will target the Silver level of the LEED standard by USGBC.  The project recently broke ground on February 8, 2012.  “Two Trails is thrilled to be a part of the Harmony Development and looks forward to completing this project and future green projects within this development.”  Drew Smith, President of Two Trails.

Allegra Homes a local design/builder in Southwest Florida has overseen the construction of thousands of homes and dozens of model centers, as well as clubhouses, golf course and all the amenities to master planned residential communities.  Allegra is now working with Two Trails on building their homes to the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) standard.  FGBC is a third party certification program for the state of Florida.  As a local certification program FGBC takes into consideration the unique climate that affects the building structures in Florida.  This gives the builder and the homeowner added reassurance that their home will perform and be healthy for it’s occupants.

About Drew Smith | Two Trails, Inc. was founded in 2001, by an innovative builder who set out to change the methodology of conventional building science. Drew realized that the only way to change the industry was to become the resource for the knowledge on how to implement healthy, sustainable projects. He “hung up his hammer” and opened one of the first green building consulting firms in the nation.

By helping to develop standards for the American Lung Association, National Home Builders Association, Florida Green Building Coalition, and USGBC LEED for Homes by either writing the standard or testing the viability of the standard in the field, he was able to provide his firm with a thorough understanding of the science of building sustainable, healthy, environmentally conscious, and affordable solutions for the building industry. He was “green” before “green” was more than a color.
